The priest tell me to thank Mary and pray to her....?

All throughout the bible I read of God's love for me. That he sent his son for me. That Jesus died on the cross for me. And he asks me to call upon his name for redemption of sins. The bible says that I’m saved by his work on the cross of Calvary. Yet the priest tell me to thank Mary and pray to her….?????
